Blackjack Glossary




 Anchorman
         player who sits in the last seat of the table, to the far right of the dealer and is last to act.


 Blackjack
         the hand that wins automatically, containing both an Ace and a 10 card.


 Bust
         a hand which exceeds 21 points in total, loses automatically.


 Dealer
         the one at the table who deals the cards and the one to beat.


 Deck
         standard amount of 52 cards used in a blackjack deck.


 Doubling Down
         double your initial bet after the first two-card deal, but you can only hit one time.


  First Baseman
         sits at the far left of the dealer in the 1st seat, is the player first to act.


 Hand
         cards that are dealt to each player.


 Head-to-Head
         playing one-on-one with the dealer with no other players present at the table.


 Hit
         receiving another card from the deal after the initial two cards are deal and a bet is placed.


 Hole Card
         the dealer's card which is faced down.


 Hard Hand
         A hand with no Ace card or with an Ace valued at 1.


 Insurance
         the Insurance bet is a side bet up to consisting of up to half the initial bet against the dealer who has a
         natural 21 - allowed only when the dealer shows an Ace. If the dealer then has a blackjack, insurance
         pays out at 2-1 odds, but loses if the dealer does not.


 Multiple-Deck
         playing blackjack with more than one deck in a shoe.


 Natural
         other slang term for a blackjack.


 Push or Tie
         Both dealer and player have an equal hand total - players keep the bet.


 Round
         everyone at the table has finished acting on their hands.


 Shoe
         the dealer’s box which contains a deck of cards, specially designed to deal one card at a time.


 Shuffle
         to mix up the cards before dealing.


 Single-Deck
         blackjack game where only one deck of cards is used.


 Soft Hand
         A hand that contains an Ace counted as 11 is called a Soft Hand.


 Split
         splitting the initial two-card hand into two and separate hands,
         only can happened when the two first cards are equal value.
         Equal bets are placed on two separate hands.


 Stand
         a player decides not to receive any more cards in a turn.


 Third Baseman
         sits at the far right of the dealer in the last seat and is the player to act last.


 Twenty-One
         another term for blackjack.


 Upcard
         the dealer's card which is face up and visible to all of the players.
